Schayden Gorai / May 22, 2020
My name is Schayden Gorai, and I am the graduating student body president of Kalāheo High School. Having everything canceled including our graduation was heartbreaking, but we knew we were going to make the best of the situation.
A couple of months ago, the senior class president of Kahuku High and Intermediate School reached out to me wanting to do something for the graduating classes on Oʻahu. Once we decided on a collaborative video, it grew to us reaching out to the class and student body presidents across the islands.
The outcome, the exposure, and the thank you’s that we received were things we never expected.
As someone who wants to learn more about making change for the community, I did my research on each candidate. Keith was the person I chose for Mayor. Once I did meet him, he proved to be a very down-to-earth person. He took a genuine interest in getting to know us and didn’t seem like your typical politician.
What also impressed me about Keith is that during his time at the Hawaiʻi High School Athletic Association, he was able to find solutions that weren’t there, which isn’t an easy thing to do. Can you imagine what he can do for our city and our budgeting? Keith has done it before, he has the right experience, and that’s what gives me hope.
My fellow classmates of the class of 2020 are a part of a global community of millions of students going through the same thing. Our dedication and determination to make the situation better have taught us patience, faith, and a humbling lesson with humanity. It is the last important lesson of this chapter.
Congratulations Class of 2020, we did it!
